Garden-to-Table
Gardening, Product assembly, Farmers Markets, Sales, & Delivery
Our work begins in the garden, where we plan, tend, and deliver produce and flowers for partners, CSAs, and farmers markets. But garden work isn’t all we do. Legacy Farms mentors and staff work with each apprentice to define interests, so that they can explore a range of garden-to-table jobs.
Some apprentices love gardening, others lean towards sales or the entrepreneurial aspects of owning a small business. We design our programming so that once we are familiar with our apprentices, we can support work at partner locations, as well as through on-site assembly of CSA deliveries.
Apprentices may also engage in sales distribution conversations, learn to sell products, and represent the organization at markets. We strike a balance between the deliveries our organization needs to make and flexibility in adapting to our apprentices’ gifts each year. In doing so, we find they bring new and creative ideas we might not otherwise have considered!
Media, writing, Design, photography, Videography
Businesses and nonprofits like ours need creative contributions that effectively represent their brand and products or programs.
Our apprentices not only have talents in these areas, but also bring unique perspectives and an eye for detail! What they need is an opportunity to bridge those interests and talents into the workforce, with plenty of space to learn about themselves, practice effective social interation, and increase organizational skills.
Whether contributing to our blog, photographing the garden, or designing logos, cards, and product collateral for the organization, our mentor/apprentice programming gives neurodiverse talent a place to thrive and grow.
culinary, landscaping, floral design work with partners
We are selective about the partners we engage with, focusing on local businesses that have true enthusiasm for working with neurodivergent individuals and mentoring! Through close partnership with businesses in artisan food crafting, landscaping, floral design, and school gardens, we create opportunities for apprentices to work off-site of our main gardens at Fabbioli Cellars and Temple Hall. This allows the apprentice not only to see the full garden-to-table cycle, but also to have a bigger understanding of market dynamics, product development, customer responsiveness, and the joys and demands of entrepreneurial fields!
An apprentice may work with a mentor at a culinary kitchen, taking the produce they’ve grown and creating product that we in turn sell at our farmers markets. They may join our partners at their farm stands. We also have landscaping and off-site garden project work via our partner businesses, and emerging floral design opportunities.
